Narrative of what we did
Based on the success of the Carlo’s storefront at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the Carlo’s Bakery team approached us to design a Times Square spectacular. It was our chance to wow the Cake Boss!
Once our design was accepted, we engineered the 16,000 lb. structure. Fortunately, 1500 Broadway was designed to accommodate substantial canopies. The building’s electrical capabilities were upgraded to meet the sign’s needs under the supervision of our Licensed Master Electrician. Concurrently, our Deer Park steel shop fabricated the frame from heavy duty 3/8″ thick 5″ x 5″ tubes; the electrical dept bent the neon tubes and the sheet metal shop cut the letters. The paint dept outdid themselves, transforming the marquee with layers of sparkling fire engine red & gold. The assembled sign was carefully trucked into Manhattan on our lowest flatbed trailer, due to its size. North Shore President & founder Tom Brown, a seasoned rigger, picked the sign with a Liebherr 1095 crane; hoisting and swinging it into position for the installers to bolt it onto the face of the building. For additional safety, turnbuckles, and field welding of select connections followed.
Our field electricians topped the marquee with the LED screens. The sign was energized and commissioned within three days of it’s leaving the shop.
No cannoli were harmed in the hanging of this sign.
